2026 Design Trends: A First Look at 2026 Color & Material Directions

Trends 2026

As we step into a new year, design is moving in a bold and beautiful direction. The upcoming 2026 color and material trends are shifting away from cool minimalism and toward warmth, depth, and natural character. This year is all about creating spaces that feel grounded, expressive, and emotionally engaging.

Some of the trends I’m most excited about are large wood paneling and the return of richer, more intense color palettes—especially tones inspired by nature.

The Rise of Large Wood Panels

Wood is making a powerful comeback, not just in furniture but as a major architectural feature. Large wood panels on walls, ceilings, and cabinetry are becoming a key design element for 2026. These panels bring:

  • warmth and texture to modern spaces
  • a sense of craftsmanship and quality
  • a natural contrast to clean, contemporary lines

In staging and design, wood panels help soften modern interiors and make them feel more inviting, layered, and timeless rather than overly minimal or cold.

Deeper, More Expressive Colors

Neutrals are evolving. While soft whites and warm creams still play an important role, 2026 is welcoming stronger, moodier colors that add personality and emotional depth.

Some of the standout shades include:

Eucalyptus Green

A fresh yet grounding green inspired by foliage and outdoor living. It feels calm, organic, and perfect for bedrooms, offices, and accent walls.

Dark Brown Tones

Chocolate, espresso, and warm walnut shades are returning as sophisticated neutrals. These tones create a sense of stability and elegance while pairing beautifully with lighter flooring and textiles.

Warm Burgundy Reds

Burgundy is making a refined comeback—less dramatic, more earthy and warm. This shade adds richness without overpowering a space and works beautifully in dining rooms, entryways, and styled accessories.

Why These Trends Matter for Staging

In home staging, color and material choices are about creating feeling—not just style. These new trends help buyers:

  • feel emotionally connected to a home
  • experience warmth instead of sterility
  • see spaces as inviting and livable
  • remember a property more clearly after showings

By blending modern layouts with Scandinavian simplicity and these richer tones, we can step away from the overly white, “too perfect” look and move toward spaces that feel curated, comfortable, and real.

Looking Ahead

2026 design trends reflect a desire for balance: modern but warm, bold but natural, structured yet expressive. Large wood elements and deeper colors allow us to design and stage homes that feel both current and timeless.

As we move through this year, I’m excited to start weaving these trends into future projects—whether through feature walls, cabinetry selections, textiles, or accent styling. My goal is always the same: to create spaces that not only look beautiful but feel like home.

If you’re thinking about refreshing your space or preparing your home for sale, this is a wonderful time to embrace these upcoming trends and create something truly special.
